Functional Print Friday Review Policy

NOTE: Parts of this policy are based on the Teaching Tech Review Policy.
Thank you to Teaching Tech for having what is largely considered to be the gold-standard for review policies.

Functional Print Friday aims to provide only honest reviews and project videos, so viewers can make an informed decision on potential purchases. Like my viewers, I am excited to try new tech, show it in use, and share my thoughts on it. To meet this aim, the following applies:

The Basics:
  • I will not provide paid promotions. No money or other items of value can change hands to avoid any conflict of interest or allegations of my review/project being biased. Where an item is provided free of charge for review or usage in a project on the channel, this will be disclosed, at a minimum, in the first video that appears on the channel that includes that item.
  • The primary item provided must be the equivalent of what a regular customer would receive after making their purchase. If I suspect an item has been specially prepared to receive a favourable experience, I reserve the right to cancel the review/project or request a replacement item be sent that is equivelant to what a regular customer would receive.
  • If an item arrives broken or damaged, fails to function, or I discover that the item functions so poorly that the review or project inclusion would be mostly negative, I will contact the company and offer to cancel the review/project inclusion before publishing any videos including that item. If the company wants to cancel the review/project video, and wants the item returned, the company is responsible for providing return shipping instructions, and covering the cost of return shipping.
  • I do not allow approval of my reviews or project videos before posting. I often finish shooting the same day I edit and post. In the case that I have a video or preview completed prior to posting, I will share that content with the company upon request.

Timing and Details:
  • Standard release of a project video or review, unless otherwise agreed to, is 3-6 weeks. If issues with the item are encountered, this may cause the release to be delayed. Unless explicitly stated and agreed upon by all parties, there is no defined deadline for a review or project video to be released.
  • The company and/or it's representatives are welcome to contact me to ask how my review or project video is progressing, and I will endeavour to reply in a timely manner.
  • For any major issues, I will contact the company and seek their direction on how to rectify the problem.
  • If I make a verified mistake in a review or project video regarding the technical capabilities of the item, I will delete the original video at the company's request, and/or provide options to overlay correction(s) in the original video.
  • I will not be held liable for any negative publicity, loss of sales, investment, etc. that comes from any review or inclusion of an item in a project video.
  • The name of the company, and the name of the product may be included in the title, thumbnail, description, tags and any other metadata.
  • Images of the product and company logo may be used on the thumbnail.
  • Links to sites where the product is for sale may be included in the description. These will often be affiliate links, as is standard practise on technology based channels.
  • Videos on my channel are monetised via YouTube, as is standard practise for most YouTube channels.

By proceeding to work with Functional Print Friday on a review or project video, you hereby agree to all of the terms presented in this policy.
